Just returned from the Dr. Pepper Center as Team Woga won the team competition. More updates and individual scores coming soon.

I was asked to post some other ideas on the benefits of gymnastics for kids

1. Gymnastics teaches self-esteem and confidence and with the challenge of learning gymnastics skills, the students gain confidence with each step that they take. Doing skills on the beam and bars helps them gain confidence in their own abilities. This improved self confidence will transfer to other areas of their lives including school.

2. Gymnastics helps with coordination, instruction from teachers helps develop better coordination and body movement. For the young child, where their world is more physical than mental, a great deal of their self confidence comes from how coordinated they are.

3. Gymnastics helps with flexibility, participation helps the kids become more flexible, enhancing competency in other sports. Flexibility also helps limit injuries and prevent injury’s that could occur in other sports.

4. Gymnastics teaches Discipline, there are rules in gymnastic classes and the teachers treat these rules as being very important. The more positive discipline the children receive the safer they will be.

These are only few positives of how gymnastics can be beneficial to your kids and their health and development. Parents should look at gymnastics as another sport same as football or soccer and encourage their kids to participate. At young age kids can learn the hardest moves fast and perform excellent moves and have a lot of fun with friends. Gymnastics is great sport that more youths should join and learn this art.

Get your children into a great Frisco Kid’s Gymnastics Center early. It will be well worth it in their later years.

If you’re like most parents considering a gymnastics program for your child, you are probably wondering, “What benefits will my kids gain from gymnastics?” Let’s face it parents, most of our kids will not become one of the competitive gymnasts we seen on TV.  While they will have the opportunity to be training here in North Texas, which has become the heart of the US gymnastics program, they will likely be simply participating in gymnastics for enjoyment. However, that doesn’t mean our kids can’t gain serious benefits from gymnastics even if they never compete in the sport. So what is the key benefit? Better health!

Sure your kids will likely have a ton of fun when they get involved in a gymnastics program, but it’s also quite obvious that getting children away from computer games and television is a positive step to them living a healthy lifestyle. With obesity reaching near epidemic proportions in the US, giving your child the excitement they get from a day in the gym is something they can get addicted to that would actually be positive. Yes their thumbs are getting strong from video games and text messaging, but gymnastics is a great source for getting the rest of their bodies strong.

When your kids get accustomed to physical activity and attach positive thoughts to being physically active, it is my belief they will be far more likely to live a healthier lifestyle in their adolescence and through adulthood. Think about it, so many people attach negative feelings to physical fitness but you’ll seldom find a kid that doesn’t like so many of the exercises they are exposed to in a gymnastics program.

Gymnastics will help your child build core strength that they can use in any sport. A good friend of mine in high school started in gymnastics at an early age and transferred the skill sets he learned in the gym into becoming one of the top rated diver in California. It was also pretty exciting to watch him do a back flip on the football field after he scored a touchdown.

So let’s put the health aside for a moment. One thing I notice whenever my daughter attends a class at Woga Frisco Gymnastics Center is that every kid is excited to get there and always seem to leave with a smile on their face. And yes, I believe exposing your children to gymnastics will not only help their physical health but also their mental health.

Congratulations to Ivana Hong, Rebecca Bross and Nastia Luikin for making the US Gymnastics Team.  Might we see all three of these girls join Bridget Sloan at the World Championships in London?

Love gymnastics?  Why not wrap a trip to London around watching our girls go for the World Championship?

Shawn Johnson brought home the championship in 2007.  Perhaps one of our local girls will bring another championship to the US.

Not so many years ago I heard many people in Dallas call Frisco, “South Oklahoma.”  So, looks like some more Frisco natives (LOL) will be joining the US Gymnastics team.  Okay, so maybe a stretch, but we’re proud of how strong gymnastics continues to be in our area.  Congratulations to OU’s Steven Legendre, Jake Dalton (alternate) and former Sooner Jonathon Horton who now trains in Houston.  All three will join the US Gymnastics team announced Saturday in Dallas after the Men’s Competition in at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.  Horton won the all-around title and was then named as USA Gymnastics’ Athlete of the Year.

The team will compete in the World Gymnastics Championship in London later this year.  Congratulations guys – good luck at World’s!

Nastia’s love of gymnastics has her seeking back-to-back Gold Medals in the London Games. Can she do it again? Don’t count this tough competitor out!
